2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 AMP
Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting comfort and encouragement and the good [well-founded] hope [of salvation] by His grace, comfort and encourage and strengthen your hearts [keeping them steadfast
and on course] in every good work and word.
Romans 15:4 NKJV
For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.
I recently found myself looking around at the world and becoming unsettled. I listened far too long to stories of the crazy behavior of godless people. I read too many headlines of devastating world disasters causing death to some and bewilderment to others.
This grieved my heart and I felt a bit of hopelessness. I honestly don’t remember the last time I let this view overwhelm me.
As a daughter of God, I have the blessed privilege of running to Daddy God’s arms when things in my world are askew and shaky. Simply being in His presence makes everything better. Here, God consoles me and speaks truth to my fearful heart. This time, His consoling
truth was brought to me through the Bible.
I was reading in the Old Testament where God speaks of order and certain requirements of the Law. As I was reading, I felt an all-encompassing peace come over me. This surprised me because I had never encountered this in any previous Old Testament readings.
I read on and on, relishing the peace that was replacing the fear and unsettling that had come into my heart. What I realized was that God created a peaceful order for our world. Through the fall of man, things can become evil and crazy, but it doesn’t change
the truth that God still spoke and wrote about order for us in the Bible. When followed, this order causes people great peace and comfort. God’s plan doesn’t change for us today because evil rears its ugly head.
I soaked in this thought for a while. I took peace and reminded myself that God hasn’t left us in a hopeless and chaotic world, but He is always available as our peace through it. In this peace we find comfort for our souls. We find clarity of mind and thought
so we can see His light through the darkness. He always has a good plan for His people, it’s up to us to come into agreement with it.
If you find things look a little frightening around you, take God at His Word. Get into the Bible and read it until you meet with Him through the Holy Spirit. Allow Him to bring you what you need, causing confidence to rise in what God is doing on your behalf.
We will be at our best when we are not distracted and overwhelmed by darkness. Instead, as the Body of Christ we carry the answer to the fears and hopelessness of the unsaved. Jesus Christ is salvation and hope to all who receive Him. He is light and life
and peace. He is the living Word of God and He has a message for us to deliver.
