Gathering Eternal Treasures

As Christians, we will gather treasures our entire lives. Some treasures will be shiny and attractive from the start,
appearing valuable, but will perish in our hands. Others will become beautiful and more valuable as we hold onto them. They will glisten with repeated touch and attention. The difference is, some are earthly treasures while others are eternal treasures.

What eternal things are you gathering? What life-giving things have you gleaned from God and others that make up your life song, your life story? Take a moment to look at the treasure in your arms. What do you see?

Are some treasures (that you once held so dear) being pushed to the edge of your arms, ready to fall out? As you’ve spent more time with God and grown with Him, perhaps their value has changed, and they are no longer precious to you. Once shiny and attractive,
they have started to lack luster. These are things like dreams and desires that once held your full attention. You spent a lot of time with them and gave them a lot of energy, but you realize they don’t have eternal value. Now they are just taking up space
that could be used for other things. Many of these treasures weren’t viewed through the light of eternity before being gripped so tightly while you made them yours. Let them go.

You’ve seen eternal treasures now, and they demand the attention of your whole being. Things like revelation learned through the Word of God. Deep joy brought from God giving you the new, eternal desires of your heart. Treasures like blessing for others, overflowing
from the blessings you have received. Maybe your treasure is a new identity as Daddy God has drawn you near to His heart and manifested His love for you in ways you’ve never known. It could also be a personal encounter with Jesus, the Living Word, that has
forever changed the way you think and look at life. These treasures are to be kept always. The amazing thing is that holding onto them makes you beautiful.

Look at your collection that shines with timeless meaning and worth. Over the years, each piece from God and others becomes a part of your identity; your life. God’s treasures and gifts keep on giving long past us. God designed us to share eternal treasures
with others. The people around you need to hear your life song. They need what you’ve gathered. They will never gather the fullness of their eternal treasures without others sharing theirs. Pour out the treasures of your heart and life. Your eternal investment
will keep growing because in God’s kingdom, giving is receiving.

Matthew 6:19, 20 NKJV

19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves
do not break in and steal.
