Look Up

Ordinary days. Sometimes I find myself looking at a new day the same as I did the day before. Before I realize it, I’ve started looking down because I don’t have to look up if I already know what’s coming ahead. The view becomes grim when we look at anything underneath us too long. We can step out of good expectation from God when we do this.
We need ordinary days in order to have extraordinary days. When we actively include God in our day’s events, anything good can happen! Living in hope-filled expectation of God’s plans for us makes the day far more inviting and exciting.
When I find myself looking down too much, I envision my loving Father bringing His hand to my face and gently lifting up my chin. Here I meet His loving gaze and I am reminded of His favour on me. Even if things weren’t going wrong, as I look into Him everything becomes refreshed and joy-filled. In His light I remember I am His and He is mine.
It doesn’t take long to change a lifeless viewpoint. The other day I was out walking and I caught myself looking down for too long. I hadn’t even peeked at the pretty surroundings I was in, which is unusual for me. I stopped, looked around and then looked up. I was immediately in awe of God’s goodness! As I was staring at the lush, green plant life, I leaned in and started listening as well. All around me was the sound of buzzing bees, choirs of crickets, chirping and chittering birds, and the blissful sighing of a thankful earth for the beautiful day. I joined in the song of creation with a huge smile and words of thanksgiving! The deepest blue sky and puffy white clouds served as a reminder that my Daddy God created those for me to see that day.
God loves us so much! He created such beauty in the midst of a day for us to find. Beauty can be found in people, too. If you are indoors for the day, God sets up divine connections for you to find. There are opportunities to serve, encourage, smile with others, lighten a load, share, inspire or simply connect with other’s prayer needs. Every day is a day to share God’s love and salvation.
God is very present in our lives. If we will simply stop and look up, an ordinary day can become extraordinary!
