James 5:16b NKJV
The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.
Over the years I have grown to love praying for people.
I have the beautiful privilege of joining others at our church for weekly prayer night. I appreciate seeing the different prayer gifts and enjoying unique experiences as we pray. We have one common goal: to bring the will of God from heaven to earth in the
form of answered prayer.
I’m learning how precious our words are to these prayers. Speaking out prayers from a human perspective instead of from God’s perspective is limiting and not fulfilling the need of the prayer.
We must take care of our hearts and minds so we can walk in righteous authority. If we’ve allowed ourselves to be entertained and compromised by the world outside the prayer room, we cannot pray authoritative prayers in the prayer room. An example would be
if we’ve been watching a tv show about worldly relationships (where infidelity is acceptable) and we come to prayer night praying for a broken marriage to be healed. We won’t have authority to pray that prayer effectively!
If the very things we’re praying change for are the same things we otherwise tolerate, we are not in line with what God is saying about that situation and we will lack true spiritual authority to pray and see that prayer answered.
As praying people, we owe it to those around us to get things in order with what the Holy Spirit is leading us to do and convicting us of what not to do. He is such a gentle teacher, guide and partner in prayer.
As we connect with the heart and mind of God, we can confidently pray powerful prayers that will bring life-filled results.
